Why Shaibu Was Removed-Aide

An aide to the just impeached deputy governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, has provided an insight into why the he was removed from office.

The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed to FreshNews that indeed, the state assembly ratified his impeachment early Monday.

He noted that the impeachment proceedings were conducted in line with the mandate of the Governor, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, who he said, ordered him removed from office at all cost, even with manufactured offences. 

According to him, the law makers could not have acted otherwise.

"Yes, he has been sacked. It is the mandate given to the law makers by the Governor himself," he told FreshNews.

The impeachment of Shaibu on Monday is sequel to the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the Assembly to look into allegations of misconduct against him.

Although the seven man panel, led by Justine Stephen A. Omonuwa, Rtd, ruled on Thursday that it would adjourn till the next day (Friday) to allow the Deputy Governor respond to and defend himself, neither the embattled deputy governor nor his counsel, attended the hearing on Friday.

 The panel then submitted its findings to the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, following which the law makers went ahead to remove him from office
