Edo 2024: LP chieftain kicks against parallel governorship primary

BENIN CITY – A leader of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State Dr Kingsley Okundaye has described the purported parallel primary of the Lamidi Apapa-led faction as unnecessary saying the unity of the party is more holy than attempting to destroy the party.

While congratulating the former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Olumide Akpata as the party’s candidate, he said his coming would change the narrative of the party which the “obidient” movement had always wanted and would give the party an edge in winning the governorship election

In a chat with newsmen in Benin City, Dr Okundaye said that Akpata ‘s competence and capacity stand out as the party’s candidate to win the election.

He said “Akpata has come to realize that the election is about people and the people must drive the process and the process will go a long way to re-establish LP’s commitment to democracy.

“Akpata has come to change the old order; Akpata will be a game changer in the election; he has built enough trust among the people by identifying with the dreams and aspirations of the people.”

Okundaye said that the ‘Obidient’ Movement would continue to be a force in ensuring that LP wins elections in the state.

He said a group in the LP known as the Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) has commenced the process of exploring all avenues to address the internal wranglings in the party.

He said LPPMC is a congregation of stakeholders of the party, including elected party men and women in government at the state and national levelsb.
