Tanker Explosion: Several People Injured In Badagry
*Victims transferring fuel in Jerry cans, polythene bags for sales in neighbouring country.
Several people have sustained various degrees of injuries following an explosion at the Fat Noble fuel station, Badagry area of Lagos state.
Reports by News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, say the incident occurred Wednesday night at about 1am while some residents were dispensing petrol in jerrycans and polythene bags.
Quoting the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Shakiru Amodu, who confirmed the incident, NAN reported that the injured were attempting to convey the products to a neighbouring country when the explosion occurred.
“The fire incident happened when some persons were filling polythene bags with petrol to sell in the neighbouring country. Our men were able to contain the fire. Four people were injured as you can see in the reports.
“They are selling fuel which is to be smuggled out of the country. Immediately, there was an explosion.
“The fire destroyed some parts of the station before the arrival of the men of the Lagos Fire Service," Amodu explained.
The fire chief also noted that the victims have been taken to the Badagry General Hospital for medical attention.
“Those who suffered serious injuries were taken to the hospital while those with minor injuries were treated within."
