Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, has assured residents of city that his command is ready and willing to put an end to all forms of crime and criminality only if residents reciprocate with information.
He gave the assurance on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the success recorded by the command in the days leading up to the briefing. 
"I want to conclude by reassuring you that the FCT Police Command, under my leadership, will do all within our power to prevent crime and criminality in all of its forms and ensure the safety of all. This can be effectively achieved only with the utmost cooperation of the residents of FCT," he said.
 
Igweh, who used to ocaasion to parade armed robbery and kidnap suspects, informed residents that operatives of his command picked up two criminal suspects, Gabriel David Elihu ‘m’ of Apo mechanic village, who is a dismissed soldier from Gombe state, and his criminal accomplice, Alex Iorjaa ‘m’ of Gboko L.G.A of Benue state.
Both of them were trailing one Blessing Mafulu and Haliru Zakari in an unregistered black coloured Toyota Hilux with Reg No. NBB 03 AH and robbed them of valuables while they were transiting between H-Medix, Gwarimpa, to Gishi Village.
The suspects were also alleged to have attempted to kidnap them but for the swift response of operatives of the Command who swung into action from the Mabushi division.  A jack knife, and some military accoutrements were recovered from them. 
"On 17/03/2023 at about 02:30 PM, following a distress call received by Mabushi Division from the victims; one Blessing Mafulul Damia and Haliru Zakari, that some men in an unregistered Toyota Hilux trailed them while on their way home from H- Medix, Gwarimpa to Gishiri village robbed them of their valuables and attempted to kidnap them. Upon receipt of the information, police operatives of the division swung into action, trailed the vehicle and arrested two suspects..."
In yet another development, the command arrested one Rosemary Ubah, a pregnant woman and her accomplice, one Walter Ezeala for kidnap.
The woman was said to have left home on Monday, March 11, on the pretext of going for her anti natal care but failed to return home as expected. However, her husband got a call through her cell phone number informing him that she had been kidnapped, with instructions to pay a N2m ransom for her release.
 
Her husband, who made the payment into her account as instructed, also reported the case at the  by her husband, Chidozie Ubah, at the Gwa Gwa division, following which she was released.
However, his wife confessed during interrogation that she masterminded the self abduction with the help of Ezeala, who lives in the same in the same street. 
"...on 11/03/2024 at about 19:40hrs, one Chiedozie Ubah ‘m’ of Saburi II Dei-dei, Abuja, reported at gwa gwa division that his pregnant wife Rosemary Ubah left home to the hospital on same date for a scan but did not return home.
He later received a call through his wife’s phone number telling him that his wife had been kidnapped and demanded for two (2) million naira ransom before her release. He transferred the sum of two (2) million naira into his wife’s account as instructed by the kidnapper.
 He later brought his wife to the station after her release. During interrogation, the wife freely confessed to have conspired with one man named Walter Ezeala ‘m’ living in the same street with them at Saburi to extort money from her husband.
 The said Walter was arrested and he confessed that his own share was eight hundred thousand (N800,000) naira and the lady took one million two hundred thousand naira (N1,200,000).
 The sum of Seven hundred and ninety three thousand five hundred naira (N793,500) cash, two (2) FCMB ATM cards and two android phone was recovered from them. Suspects will be charged to court soon."
CP Igweh who promised that all the suspects will soon have their days in court, assured that the FCT command, under his leadership, has the wherewithal to adequately secure lives and property in the city.
