Akpoborie Offers Free Surgeries To Indigent Compatriots

Former Nigerian international, Jonathan Akpoborie, has offered free medical procedures for indigent Nigerians in Ajegunle, one of the most neglected settlements in the mainland area of Lagos state.

Akpoborie, a member of the Nigerian team that won the first FIFA U-16 Championship in 1985, brought the medical team from outside the shores of Nigeria to conduct the free medical exercise, including surgeries, on indigent in the area.

The exercise is taking place at the Ajeromi General Hospital, Cardoso, Ajagunle, in the Ajeromi council area of the state. It began October 1, is billed to wind up on October 13.

The former Stuttgart player, who also played for the Flying Eagles at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship in Chile in 1987, featured for the country at the 1992 and 2000 Africa Cup of Nations, where he won bronze and silver respectively.

The Ajegunle free medical outreach programmes for the indigent is not the first undertaken by the former Nigerian international.

Last year, the businessman who runs a player agency and has expressed interest in running the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, funded a similar one in Ozoro, Delta State, in 2022.
