Former South African Paralympic champion, Oscar Pistorius, has been released from Prisons.

He was released on parole Friday after spending half of his 11 years sentence for killing his then girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Reports, quoting prison officials, confirmed his being "at home" after serving meeting the country's statutory prison service requirement half of the his 13 years sentence.

The 37 year-old Pistorius became the first double amputee to run in the Olympics In 2012.

However, barely six months afterwards, he shot Ms Steenkamp multiple times through a toilet door in his house, claiming in the ensuing trial that he mistook her for a burglar.

Despite his defense claims, he was convicted of murder three years later when an appeal court overturned an earlier verdict of culpable homicide or manslaughter.

While reacting to his release, Steenkamp's mother said she accepted the decision of his release as it is part of the country’s legal system.

She added however, that it was her family that was serving death sentence, an allusion to what she would have preferred as the right sentence for the loss of Ms Steenkamp.
