"I Have A Year To Live," Sven-Goran Eriksson

Former England manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, says he has been diagnosed of Pancreatic cancer and probably has less than one year to live.

The 75 year-old Swede made the revelation on Thursday.

“Everyone understands that I have a disease that is not good. Everyone guesses that it’s cancer, and it is. But I have to put up a fight as long as I can,” Eriksson said in an interview.

Prior to the revelation, Eriksson announced February 2023 that he was stepping out of public life 'due to health issues'.

He explained that if his doctor's assessment is anything to go by, he has “at best maybe a year, at worst a little less”.

“I could think about it all the time, and sit home and mope, feel unlucky and so on. I think it’s easy to end up like that.

He however, counselled on the need to look at the development from the positive side, adding that doing so has helped him to cope with the after effect of the diagnosis.

“See the positive in things.

“Don’t bury yourself due to adversity. This is the biggest adversity of course, but try to make something good out of it," counselled.

Eriksson took England to both the 2002 and 2006 World Cup quarter-finals, having previously handled a number of high-profile teams.
