82 Div, Enugu Murder: Repentant Boko Haram Member Fingered

A repentant member of the Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, also known as Boko Haram, has been identified as the suspect who allegedly slit the throat of a woman inside the 82nd Div Barracks, Enugu.

The suspect, identified as Private Mohammed Adamu, enlisted into the Nigerian Army with registration number 21NA/80/0365, reportedly stabbed the woman to death and hid her lifeless body afterwards.

According to Sahara Reporters, the case with the hijab-wearing woman, identified as Hauwa and described as Pte Adam's lover, was confirmed by Army sources on Saturday.

Hauwa's body was said to have been discovered around the division’s officers quarters Friday by a lady said to be the daughter of an Army lieutenant.

“A lifeless body of a lady who was stabbed by an unknown person was discovered yesterday in 82 division barracks,” Sahara Reporters quoted a source as saying.

“The body was discovered by the daughter of an Army lieutenant who was taking food to her dad who is working on their farm somewhere around the division officers quarters

“And the knife used in killing the same lady was dropped off close to the body while the body was wrapped with the hijab she was wearing.” the medium further quoted, noting however, that army authorities have not officially commented on the alleged murder or about Pte Adamu said to be working with the division's legal unit.

Referencing two unidentified two senior military officers as sources, Sahara Reporters pointed out that Pte Adamu is a repented Boko Haram terrorist who was recruited into the Civilian Joint Task Force before being enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 2021 after his repentance.

He is said to be one of about 400 repentant individuals linked with the terrorist organization, absorbed into the Civilian JTF to assist in the war against Boko Haram terrorists between 2020 and 2021.

“The suspect behind the murder of Miss Hauwa, the hijab woman is 21NA/80/0365 Pte Mohammed Adamu of 82Div legal services.

"Unfortunately, Pte Mohammed Adamu is a repented Boko Haram member who after his repentance joined the civilian JTF. It was from being a CJTF that he was enlisted into the Army in the year 2021." 

Although details of what led to the murder is yet to be disclosed, Sahara Reporters, quoting it's sources, revealed that Pte Adamu actually invited Hauwa, who is from Biu, the same council area as himself, to Enugu. He was also said to have actually paid for her transit only to turn around and murder her in cold blood. He is said to have confessed to the murder of the young lady who, at the time of her death, was pregnant for him. 

“Investigation revealed that Miss Hauwa and Pte Mohammed Adamu were both lovers and from same town in Biu local government area of Borno state. He, Pte Mohammed Adamu paid her transport to come over to Enugu and killed her. He is currently in custody of the military police and his statement has been taken in which he confessed to the act.

“The late Hauwa was pregnant for Pte Adamu Mohammed before he slit her throat, stabbed her belly multiple times and tied her up in the bush near the 82Div officers quarters, on the early hours of Friday 12th of April.

“In his statement, Pte Mohammed Adamu claimed that the pregnancy the late Hauwa was carrying wasn't his own, and he is not ready to father any child yet and he lured her out.”
