Anambra Police Smash Kidnap Gang, Rescue Four Victims

Operatives of the Anambra Police command on Friday, intercepted a gang of dare devil kidnappers operating in a convoy of exotic cars and also rescued four abducted men.

The development is contained in a statement released to newsmen by the command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu. 

According to the statement, the operatives, alongside local vigilante, intercepted the kidnappers along the Amagu Awgbu Road, Orumba North council area of the state, as they were heading towards an exit route from the state.

The gang, the statement added, opened fire on sighting the patrol team but bowed to security team's superior firepower and took to their heels.

In the aftermath of the gun fire exchange, the security team demobilized two of the three vehicles the gang operated with. However, some members of gang escaped in the third vehicle, while others escaped into the bush

The operatives recovered one Pump Action Gun during the encounter, two SUVs comprising One Toyota Highlander, 2017 edition, with Reg No. Abuja GWA 141 KZ, and one Mercedes Benz GLK 350 4Matic, with Registration Number Anambra AGU 242 NQ.

Preliminary enquiry revealed that the number plates on the Mercedes Benz SUV were issued to a Toyota Sienna Spacewagon vehicle.

Four abducted victims were rescued unhurt from the gang. Preliminary debriefing to ascertain circumstances of their abduction are ongoing.

State police commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who described the rescue of the victims as heroic, commended the effective collaboration between Police and Vigilante, emphasizing that once the protection of the citizenry is the focus, the police will work seamlessly with all relevant stakeholders to eradicate all vestiges of threat that may be confronting the people.

He directed that the case be transfered to Anti Kidnapping Unit in Awkuzu. He also mandated the unit to deploy its expertise in tracking down gang members who escaped the onslaught at Awgbu and bring them to justice.
