Avoid Nigeria's Major Hotels-Us Warns Citizens

The United States, US, government has  sternly warned American citizens in Nigeria to desist from having anything to do with major hotels in Nigeria with immediate effect.

It gave the warning following what it describes as “elevated threats” to such facilities in the country's “larger cities”.

The warning was issued on Friday in an emergency information advisory for all US citizens.

Though the advisory added that the Nigerian security agencies are working to contain the threat, it however, asked US citizens to take routine security steps, including being vigilant at major hotels and alert about their surroundings.

The advisory also urged Americans to keep low profiles, reviewing the travel advisory for Nigeria before checking into any hotels.

“The U.S. Government is aware of credible information that there is an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities.

“The Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter the threat.

“The U.S. Department of State advises U.S. citizens to consider this information when arranging lodging or visiting major hotels in Nigeria.”

The advisory provided addresses and telephone numbers of the US embassy in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja and its consulate in Lagos in case of any US citizen requires help.

The travel advisory is the second in as many months, following another one in October which also counseled American citizens across the world to be cautious while travelling to various locations around the world with Nigeria listed under the third tier of caution alert.
