The Nigerian Army said on Friday that it's troops apprehended a former soldier in Bauchi state on suspicion of supplying weapons to Boko Haram members.

The disclosure was made by the Army Joint Task Force, JTF, in a report.

The JTF report noted that the suspect, a dismissed soldier from 5 Brigade, Damasak, was apprehended in Boi, Bogoro council area of the state and found in possession of two Pistols, two magazines and eight rounds of 9mm ammunitions. 

The JTF did not reveal other details. 

“On 18 July 23, troops arrested one suspected gunrunner at Boi in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was a dismissed soldier from 5 Bde Damasak.Troops recovered 2 pistols, 2 magazines, and 8 rounds of 9 mm ammo,” the report read in part.

Meanwhile, the JTF also disclosed that two suspected members of the Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists’ logistic suppliers, were arrested on the same day at Kukareta market in Damaturu council area of Yobe state. 

Items recovered from them include two mobile phones, the sum of seven thousand two hundred and sixty-five (N7, 260) Naira and other items.
