Anambra Police Commissioner Condemns Resort To Jungle Justice

Anambra state police commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has warned against resort to jungle justice by some individuals and groups in the state.

The warning is contained in a release forwarded to newsmen on Friday by the Command's spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.

CP Aderemi, who described those involved in jungle justice as beasts, warned that the command will neither condone any form of criminality nor hesitate in charging to court for murder anyone found perpetrating the act.

According to him, those who resort to the act are worse than the suspects they lynch.

"Someone steals a phone and a mob kills him. The sentence for stealing a phone is 3 years imprisonment. Those who lynch commits murder which carries the death penalty as the Courts have not delegated anyone outside the Judiciary to try, convict and execute suspects," CP Aderemi explained.

He advised any and all aggrieved persons to report such cases to the police, adding they should report directly to his office if the police fail to act appropriately. He assured that the command will always be alive to its responsibility in maintaining law and order. Recourse to self help will not be tolerated.
