Crude Oil Theft: Troops Uncover Sites In Delta Communities

Troops of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Nigerian Army, on Saturday, September 2, uncovered several illegal Oil bunkering sites in two Delta state communities.

The development is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesperson, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu, who identified the communities as Owahwa and Tseleku, explained that the troops made the discoveries in collaboration with operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, as it continued to crack down on illegal oil bunkering in Southern Nigeria.

“Troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion conducting anti-oil theft operations on Saturday, September 2, cracked down on oil thieves’ camps in Owahwa creek, in Ughelli South Local Council of the state.

“In the crackdown, the vigilant troops discovered 12 active illegal refining sites, 60 crude oil cooking ovens, 14 reservoirs, six wooden boats laden with stolen crude and 470 sacks of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) concealed in the camps.

Maj Gen Nwachukwu also disclosed that the troops intercepted a vehicles carrying 25 polythene bags filled with suspected illegally refined diesel, also known as AGO, in Ogbodu community, in Udu Council area of the state.

In yet another incident, members of the 3rd Battalion, intercepted two wooden boats in Tselewu, Warri North council area. They arrested two suspects in connection with the intercepted boat that was filled with stolen crude in

“The troops also intercepted a vehicle conveying 25 polythene bags of suspected illegally refined AGO in Ogbodu Community, in Udu Local Council of Delta. 

“In a similar operation also conducted on September 2, troops of 3 Battalion, intercepted two wooden boats laden with stolen crude in Tsekelewu, Warri North Council of the state. The troops also arrested two suspects in connection with the crime. 

“Both suspects and the illegal products have been handed over to NSCDC personnel attached to Tantita Security Services for further action.

“Members of the public are implored to report any suspected act of sabotage or criminality to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations to curb economic sabotage in the country,” Nwachukwu said.
