Four Killed in a US "Sweet 16" Birthday Bash
Four persons have been shot dead in an Alabama teen birthday party
No fewer than four persons have been killed in a late night birthday bash in Dadeville, Alabama, on Sunday.
Twenty-eight others person's were wounded, some critically, in the shooting incident.
Reuters, quoting local authorities, reports that the shooting incident started shortly after 10:30 p.m. Central Time without providing further details.
"We're going to continue to work in a very methodical way to go through this scene, to look at the facts, and ensure that justice is brought to bear for the families," Jeremy Burkett, a sergeant with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said
Reports in local newspapers indicate that a high school football player, Phil Dowdell, is one of the four killed in the incident, which was his sister's" Sweet 16 "birthday.
He is set to graduate in a matter of weeks and already billed to attend Jacksonville State University on a football scholarship.
The shooting is the third high profile mass shooting in US South in as many weeks. It is coming on the heels of the deadly shootings in Tennessee and Kentucky.
"What has our nation come to when children cannot attend a birthday party without fear?" President Joe Biden, who wants US Congress to pass laws making firearms manufacturers more liable for gun violence, said in a statement on Sunday.
