Dangote Refinery Obtains License To Refine 300,000bpd Crude

The Dangote Refinery has secured the license to refine over 300,000 barrels of Nigerian crude per day.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by its GMD, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, while speaking during an interview in Riyadh, on the sidelines of the Saudi-Nigeria business roundtable.

Dangote also disclosed that the refinery will soon begin to process gasoline with crude sourced from Nigeria.

“We don’t want to start our refinery with foreign goods. We want to start with the Nigerian crude.

“We’re more than ready and you will see our gasoline products soon,” he said.

Dangote, who explained that the refinery's first priority is to meet gasoline supply to the local market, also alluded to the delay in production take-off. He insisted that production will take off “very very soon.”

Reports credited to the refinery's Executive Director, Dangote Group, Devakumar Edwin, said the refinery would be importing crude oil offshore. The first cargo, he said in the reports, was being expected.

He disclosed that though the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, is a crude oil trading company, the Dangote Refinery opted to source crude from offshore sources because NNPCL committed its crude elsewhere.

Dangote's 650,000bpd facility is designed to produce 27 million litres of diesel, 11 million litres of kerosene and nine million litres of jetA1fuel.
