Coup-phobia: Rwanda Sacks 12 Army Generals, 1,013 Military Officers
In the aftermath of coups running through mostly former French colonies in particularly West Africa, Rwanda President, Paul Kagame, has retired 12 military Generals and 1 013 officers of the country's army.
The development is contained in a statement published on the Rwanda Defense Force’s official website, Wednesday, indicating that the RDF generals, including senior presidential advisor on security matters, James Kabarebe, have been approved for retirement by President Kagame.
According to local media, while some of those retired generals had attained the manditory 65-year retirement age, others were indicted ovee misconduct cases.
A breakdown indicates that Kagame approved the retirement of 95 Military Generals and 930 junior officers. The development is coming on the heels of the military putsch that sacked the Bongo dynasty, which ended with sack of Ali Omar Bongo, after over five decades of presiding over the affairs of the oil rich Central African nation.
“The president has also approved also approved the retirement of 83 Senior Officials, 86 Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, 6 Junior Officers, 678 end-of-contract retirements, 160 soldiers who were discharged on medical grounds," the statement read in part.
The senior military officers also include Fred Ibingira, Charles Kayonga, Frank Mushyo Kamanzi, Martin Nzaramba, Eric Murokore, Augustin Turagara, Charles Karamba, Albert Murasira, Chris Murari, Didace Ndahiro, and Emmanuel Ndahiro.
Thus far, military officers have removed the democratically elected administrations in Guinea Bissau, Mali, Sudan, Burkina Faso, and most recently, Niger Republic, setting off panic buttons across the continent.
