We Did Declare Umunze A No-Go Area-Anambra Police

The Anambra state Police Command has debunked claims in some media that it had declared Umunze, in Orumba South council area of the state a 'No-Go Area' or  the Headquarters of ESN.

In a statement dubbed, Umunze is NOT Headquarters of ESN, the command described the story as mischievous and handiwork of makers out to create panic in the state.

"Attention of Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a story making the rounds on social media claiming that Umunze in Orumba South LGA is the Headquarters of ESN and that the Police regard the town as a "No-Go-Area"

"While sympathising with the kidnap victim who was allegedly held for four days in the area, it is important to let the public know that the claims attributed to the man is false and baseless," the statement read in part.

The statement recalled the smashing of a of an insurgents camp at Ogbunka near Umunze, where operatives of the Command's Aguata-based Forward Operating Unit rescued three kidnap victims, including a priest, and recovered arms and ammunitions.

It wondered why, in spite of that, anyone would now turn around to claim that the Police regard the area as a no-go area.

The statement added that the Divisional Police Headquarters in Umunze is functioning at full capacity, adding that the police will continue to discharge its responsibilities to the people in the area.

It noted however, that the command is aware of insurgent activities to the south of Umunze, in a neighbouring state. But it insisted that collaborative efforts are ongoing to root them out.

Meanwhile, the state police commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has vowed that the Command will hunt down and bring to justice the killers of the Nanka Ward chairman of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, Nze Joe Muoghali.

CP Aderemi made the vow in a statement issued by the command and released by its spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, CP Aderemi condemned the killing in strongest possible terms, describing the killers as cowards who have murdered sleep.

He added that though the murderers probably assumed that they committed a perfect crime over which they would get away, the killers, he opined, should know that they are only deluding themselves because the command will hunt them down.

"They might think they have committed a perfect crime and that they would get away with it but they delude themselves.

"The Police is already working on vital clues to unmask the perpetrators," he said.

He assured all law abiding citizens and residents of the state, particularly those in Nanka, not to panic but to join hands with the Police in bringing the murderers and their sponsor to justice.
