Three Dead, Three More Injured in Tennessee Shool Shooting

At least three children have been confirmed dead in Monday's rampaging Tennessee shooting.

The shooting by a heavily armed 28-year-old man also injured three adult staff of The Covenant School, a private Christian school which the shooter once attended. 

The shooter was killed by the police, Reuters quotes authorities.

Police Chief John Drake identified the assailant as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, a 28 year-old transgender, who had maps of the school, including entry points for the building.

Drake added that the killer equally left documents, including a "manifesto" which are currently being evaluated by investigators. 

The victims have been identified as 9 year-olds Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney.

The injured staff are listed as Mike Hill, 61, a school custodian, Cynthia Peak, 61, a substitute teacher, and Katherine Koonce, 60, listed "head of school."

Although the motive for the incident is yet to be ascertained, Drake said investigators are working on a theory about what may have precipitated the shooting and would "put that out as soon as we can," adding however, that the assailant had no known prior criminal history.

Drake also referred to the supposition that the shooter may have harbored "some resentment "for having to go to that school" as a younger person.

The shooting is the latest of what is gradually becoming a deadly mass shooting epidemic in the US.
