Shaibu Withdraws Suit Against Obaseki
Gov Obaseki and Dep Gov Shaibu

Embattled Edo state deputy governor, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, has withdrawn the suit he filed in an Abuja High Court against his boss, Governor Godwwin Obaseki.

The development is contained in a letter written to the court by the deputy governor, dated 5 September, 2023 and titled Re:SUIT NO. FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023.

Shaibu cited the intervention of prominent individuals, including monarchs, party leaders and the Arch Bishop of the Benin Diocese, Rev Dr Augustine Akubeze, as the reason for his change of mind.

“Arising from the series of meeting held with me and also with Mr Governor by well meaning Edolites and indeed Nigerians including party leaders, traditional rulers, and my Archbishop, His Grace, Most Rev’d Dr Augustine Akubeze, the Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese on the issues that led to my going to court on the above named suit and with due respect to these eminent personalities and leaders whose persuasions and persons I cannot ignore, I, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu have authorized and instructed my solicitors to withdraw the suit forthwith,” he wrote in his statement he personally signed.

It would be recalled that the deputy governor sued his boss in an Abuja Federal High Court, alongside the state house of Assembly, the state chief judge, the Department of State services, DSS and the Nigerian Police over alleged plan to impeach him from office.

Among others, he prayed the court to stop the alleged plan.
