The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, appointed the Deputy National Chairman (North), His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum, as the National Chairmanship of the party in acting capacity with effect from Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
National Publicity Secretary, PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in statement said the party accepted the court that restrained its chairman from parading himsel as the chairman of the party.
According to him, the decision was after a careful consideration of the Court Order and in line with Section 45 (2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
He disclosed that the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North), His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of the party in acting capacity with effect from Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
The appointment was made after the party's emergency meeting on Tuesday, while acknowledging the Order of the Benue State High Court, of March 27, 2023, with regards to the chairmanship position of the party.
"The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters of our great Party to remain calm and united at this critical time." The statement read.
