Osun Court Jails 2 Community Leaders, 3 Others Over Ex Speaker's Leaked Ritual Video

An Oshogbo-based Federal High Court, on Tuesday, committed five persons to five years each in prison. for blackmailing former Speaker of Osun State Assembly, Hon Timothy Owoye. 

The convicts, Kazeem Agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, Abdul-Rasheed Ojonla, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Kehinde, alongside Oyebanji Oyeniyi and Ismaila Azeez, initially arraigned in court on October 19th, 2018, were convicted for defrauding the former speaker of the sum of N38m and subsequently released a nude video of the politician while allegedly having a ‘ritual bath’ in public.

In the 13-second viral video released in 2018, the ex speaker, who represented Ilesa East, is seen, accosted by a group of individuals who alleged that he conducted a ritual bath in a market square, alleged to be part of his plany to ensure his victory in the 2019 General elections.

The prosecution presented 57 exhibits, including flash drives and bank statements from Guarantee Trust Bank, WEMA Bank, and First Bank, among others.

Presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, found five of the seven accused guilty of conspiracy, advance fee fraud and among others, cyberstalking. 

According to the judge, the convicted individuals not only defrauded the former Speaker of N38 million, they also callously posted his nude video on the internet with the intent of subjecting him to public ridicule.

Oyeniyi was however, discharged and acquitted of all charges related to the case
