Obaseki Disbands Shaibu's Media Crew
Gov Godwin Obaseki

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has disbanded the media crew attached to the office of his Deputy, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu.

The disbandment was announced in a statement signed and released by the state  Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare.

According to the statement, the crew is to replaced by personnel seconded on request by the Deputy governor, from the ministry of Communication and Orientation.

The statement also noted that the directive is as a result of the crew's handling of Monday evening's event at the colloquium marking the 60th anniversary of the referendum on the formation of Midwest.

"Edo State Government has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, with a directive to the Deputy Governor to henceforth request the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for media coverage of activities of his office.

"This directive followed the ugly and unfortunate incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of Midwest Referendum celebration held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the Deputy Governor, attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated," the statement read in part.

It noted further that the action of the crew was in breach of accredited protocol established for the media coverage of the event, adding that the deputy governor’s "orchestrated and stage managed walkout and disruption is highly regrettable."
