Lafia Hospital Baby Theft: Nasarawa Police Questions Three Suspects

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed that it is currently quetioning three individuals arrest in connection with the disappearance of a baby boy stolen barely three hours after birth at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

The baby boy, delivered through caesarean section, was taken away by an unidentified woman who was commissioned by a relation of the 20 year-old new mother to look after mother and child while she went home to get a few materials. 

She however, disappeared with the new child shortly afterwards in a case of child theft and has not been seen. 

State police commissioner, Umar Shehu Nadada, briefed newsmen on latest development on the issue on Wednesday, noting that the three individuals were undergoing interrogation over the matter.

CP Nadada pointed out that the case has nothing to do with ritual, noting that investigation was already in full swing

“I don’t think the matter is connected to ritualists but investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department. 

“Yesterday (Tuesday), one Suleiman Abdullahi of Timber Shade went to A Division Police Station and reported that his wife had a Caesarean Section at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.

“He narrated that his brother’s wife who was assisting his wife wanted to go home to get a charger but unfortunately handed over the child to an unknown woman.

“But when she came back to the ward, she could not find the child and the woman. That was how the matter was reported to us.

Among those said to have been invited by the police are two hospital staff and the relation of the woman whose baby was stolen.
