Killed Policemen: Anambra Command Hunt Killer Insurgents

Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for alleged armed insurgents who killed police two personnel on escort duty on Tuesday. 

The alleged Insurgent, said to have infiltrated from an unnamed neighbouring state, were disguised in military fatigue.

They were also said to be on kidnap mission but were jolted on seeing the two armed police officers approaching their direction. They opened fire on the officers who were ahead of the convoy they were escorting to decongest traffic gridlock. 

Although other police personnel returned fire, they were however, careful not to hit motorists in the vicinity, an action that gave the gang ample time to escape. 

Following the development, the police mobile-led Mobile Forward Operating Base, which had been on patrol duty of the entire area throughout Christmas celebrations, responded by promptly deploying to the scene.

The team recovered a Lexus SUV used by the gang and defused an improvised explosive device found inside the vehicle. It also recovered an AK-47 rifle belonging to one of the slain personnel.

Meanwhile, the state police commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who earlier declared the weekend and Christmas holidays as special working days, has urged all personnel of the Command not to be demoralized by the death of their colleagues. He counseled them to draw inspiration from the late officers' bravery in confronting the criminal gang.

He also condoled with families of the deceased officers and Enugu State Police Command but vowed that the personnel will not die in vain, urging all officers and men of Anambra state Police command to redouble their efforts and remain vigilant.

He assured that technology would be employed to track down the criminals who unleashed the attack on Police personnel. He called on the people of Anambra State not to allow the incident to create fear in their minds but to continue with various activities they had slated for the yuletide season.
