Djokovic Cruises Into US Open Quarters

Serbian tennis sensation, Novak Djokovic, on Sunday cruised into the quarter finals of the ongoing US Open after making mincemeat of his Croatia opponent, Borna Gojo, in straight sets.

Djokovic, 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, was emphatic in outclassing Gojo, the world No.105, to win 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 in slightly less than 2 and a half hours on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court.

Djokovic, 36, is now billed to face 9th seeded home player, Taylor Fritz, in one of Tuesday's semis. A win for him will extend his title-chasing streak for an unprecedented 24th Grand Slam title.

In cruising past Gojo, Djokovic made mere 12 unforced errors compared to Gojo’s 40 tally. He broke the latter's serve five times to earn a victory analysts termed "clinical".

“I knew that Borna has a big game…he’s a big shot player, serve and forehand, big weapons, and moves pretty well for a big guy,” Djokovic said, after reaching his 13th US Open quarter-final.

“The key to match was to try and neutralise his serve. Just glad to get through in straight sets," he added.
