Dauda Lawal Remains Zamfara Gov-Supreme Court
"Describes as "perverse" Appeal Court verdict that removed him.
The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that Zamfara state governor, Dauda Lawal, remains governor of the state against earlier ruling by the Appeal Court.
The apex court, which vacated the November 16, 2023 "Inconclusive" judgement of the Appeal Court, held that Lawal, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secured the majority of lawful votes and was rightly declared the winner of the gubernatorial contest by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
While reading the lead judgement, Justice Emmanuel Agim, described the verdict of the appellate court as “perverse”, thereby restoring the earlier decision of the Zamfara State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which affirmed Lawal’s election victory.
