Dangote Refinery Starts Production

The Dangote Refinery, the largest single-train refinery in the world, began production early hours Friday.

The development is contained in a statement released by the company.

According to the statement, the production kick off is sequel to the delivery of six million barrels of crude supply the refinery received this week. That is, in addition to the other batches earlier received.

Although the 650,000 barrel-per-day refinery was earlier scheduled to begin operation in June 2023, it did not receive its first crude oil until late last year, hence the late starting up.

However, when fully operational, it is expected to be a game changer for the country as it is billed to help reduce its over reliance on imported fuel.

As part of its initial production outlay, the refinery will kickstart with the production of aviation fuel and diesel before moving on to produce Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol.

Over all, the refinery is capable of producting fuel for domestic consumption with enough more for export.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery can meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s requirement of all refined products, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet, and also have surplus of each of these products for export,” the company said in a statement.
