Bokkos Youths Released as Herdsmen Attack 3 Community Members

Members of some communities arrested by police in the wake of recent killings in Bokkos council area, Plateau state, have been released.

A member of one of the communities, who spoke exclusively with FreshNews correspondent, made the disclosure on Wednesday.

Their release was said to have followed intervention by well meaning individuals and groups. Their arrest triggered a backlash in the community a few days ago following which protesting women torched the home of the traditioner ruler whom they accused of colluding with their tormentors.

According to the source, trouble started when one of the killer herdsmen was apprehended and subsequently killed around Bokkos market on Wednesday last week.

Following the incident, the police swooped in on the communities and randomly arrested every young person within sight.

Angered by the development, protesting women marched to the police station and demanded for their release, stressing that those arrested had nothing to do with the killing. They were however, turned down.

They then marched to the house of the traditional ruler whom they accused of complicity and burnt down a section of his house.

Meanwhile, alleged herdsmen brutally macheted three community members in Tamiso, Mangor while they were harvesting Irish in their farm. The incident was said to have taken place a day after the incident at the traditional ruler's home. The victims were however, rushed to the Alheri Nursing Home, Bokkos, for medical attention.
