Wike/Fubara War:  Lawmakers Divide Into Two Factions... Hold Separate Sitting

 The Rivers State House of Assembly, on Tuesday divided into two factions as lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara held sittings in different locations.

The faction led by Martin Amaewhule, the factional Speaker loyal to Wike sat at the Assembly complex guarded by heavy security personnel manned by a detachment of armed policemen.

The other faction loyal to Fubari, led by Edison Ehie, the suspended Leader of the House and the factional Speaker loyal reportedly also sat.

There was an unusual security beef up by the police around the Rivers State House of Assembly along Moscow road, Port Harcourt as lawmakers led by Amaewhule held its sitting.

Sketchy reports have it that about 25 Lawmakers sat and deliberated on the called off strike by members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, inspected the damage caused by the explosion that rocked the Assembly Chambers on October 29.

They are reported to have called on security agencies to investigate the bombing of the Assembly Chambers and unearth the masterminds and bring them to book.

Our Correspondent reports that the main entrance to the Assembly Complex, which is directly opposite the Rivers Police Command headquarters Moscow road, Port Harcourt, was being guarded by five trooper vehicles as Police Armour Personnel Carrier (APC) was stationed at the area.

In another development, the faction of lawmakers loyal to Fubara passed a vote of confidence on the governor.

In statement signed by one Ken Uchendu on behalf of the faction, they said that “rising from a sitting on Tuesday 21st November 2023, the House commended the Governor on his developmental strides and security initiatives to keep Rivers State peaceful,” stressing that it takes a man of great vision and peace to steer the ship of development for the benefit of the people of the State

“The House resolved to continuously give the governor the required support to accomplish his consolidation and continuity agenda to benefit the State.”

He said the lawmakers condemned the attack on the Speaker’s residence and the burning of the hallowed chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly and that the House appealed to the governor to commence the rehabilitation works as soon as possible.

They also called on the Inspector General of police, and other related security apparatus in the state to investigate these attacks and bring the culprits to book.

Our Correspondent could not independently confirm the time and venue where five lawmakers including, Ehie had their sitting.
