Thank You For The Return of Abacha Loot, Tinubu Tells France

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed Nigeria's gratitude to France for the return of the $150m stolen from the country’s treasury by late military head of state, Gen Sani Abacha.

He made the statement in Abuja on Friday while speaking with the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherina Colonna.

The President, who commended France for its cooperation over the hitch-free return of the looted funds, assured that his administration would deploy the fund judiciously.

“...We appreciate your effective cooperation concerning the return of Nigeria’s money. It will be judiciously applied in attaining our development objectives,” he told Colonna, who delivered the news.

President Tinubu also used the occasion to commend the French government for the signing of a €100 million agreement between Nigeria and France in support of the Federal government initiated i-DICE programme, designed to promote investment in Information and Communications Technology, ICT, and Creative Arts Industries.

The deal was earlier signed by Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Innovations and Digital technology, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijjani, and his French counterpart for Europe and Foreign Affairs, at an earlier event at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
