Nigeria's national women football team, the Falcons, on Monday, fell to the Lionesses, their England counterpart, at the ongoing Women's World cup.

The English side won a 4-2 after full time scores remained goalless. Indeed nothing changed even after Lauren James got the marching order via a VAR ordered red card in the second half of the pulsating game. The mandatory half an hour also failing to produce a decider until the penalty shootout which lost by two shots.

Desire Okparanozie and Michelle Alozie missed Nigeria's first two shots with Rashida Ajibade and Christy Uchiebe finding the back of the net.

Georgia Marie Stanway, who took the first and opening kick failed to find the back of the net. However, kicks by Berthany England, Rachel Ann Daly, Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly ensured the ladies from England moved to the Quarter Final stage of the competition.
