Human Trafficking: Woman Raises the Alarm Over Her Missing Baby

Mrs Wosilat Suleiman, mother of a new born baby boy, has raised the alarm over her stolen baby barely three hours after delivery at the Dalhatu Specialist Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa state.

Mrs Suleiman made the revelation on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday.

She explained that she gave birth to her baby through cesarean section at about 3am Tuesday but was stolen at about 6am same day by a yet-to-be-identified women.

According to her, shortly after her delivery, one of her relations, who was caring for her, needed to go home and pick up some items. She then introduced a woman to take care of her and the baby pending when she would be back.

“My relation who was taking care of me the delivery wanted to pick up some things from the house, so she introduced a woman to me which am not familiar, to take care of me pending when she will be back.

“She told me that the woman will take care of me and the baby before she return from the house.

Wosilat, who appealed to the relevant authorities to help her find her baby as she was still going through pain, added that her relations assured her that she trusted the woman because she had a patient at the hospital.

“My relations who concluded that the woman had a patient at the ward trusted her to help us before she return.

“While at the postnatal ward the woman gave me impression she want to bath the baby and disappeared with him.”

In its reaction however, the hospital management regretted the incident. Speaking through its Acting head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr Mohammed Salihu, the hospital noted;

“...despite the strict security measures put in place in the facility to protect patients and staff, the ugly incident happened,” adding that it was the first time a thing like this ever happened at the hospital.

While promising that the hospital would ensure proper investigation of the incident, Dr Salihu explained that the management would review the CCTV footage with a view of arresting the culprit. He added that the incident has also been reported to the police and that investigation was already in progress.

“Already the relations of the mother of the baby has been arrested and some of our staff on duty were invited by the police for questioning,” he added
