Anambra Police Neutralize 5, Recover 2 Rocket Launchers, Other Weapons

Barely 48 hours hours after operatives of the Anambra Police Command, attached to the Rapid Response Team, foiled attempts by members of the proscribed Indigeneous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Eastern Security Network, ESN, to enforce a Sit-At-Home order, the command have recorded another feat.

The team intercepted and neutralized a five-man gang suspected to also belong to the same groups, operating between the state and neighbouring Imo. They were said to be on their way for a planned operation 

State police Commissioner, CP Echeng Echeng, made the disclosure while briefing the media at the command headquarters in Awka Tuesday afternoon.

According to him, the security team also recovered 2 rocket launchers, 4 AK47 rifles, 4 magazines, 1 pump action and live ammunitions from the neutralized hoodlums. 

CP Echeng added that the breakthrough was recorded following efforts by the operatives to clear some dens belonging to criminal gangs around Ifite, Ogbunike of the council area where two kidnapped victims were rescued. 

He extolled the exploits of his Command's operatives which he said has helped immensely in reining in the excesses of insurgents in the state. 

"We want to state categorically that the synergy of Police, Military, other security agencies and vigilantes has helped immensely in the tackle and fight against the insurgents in the state. For us today, this is a big positive one that happen to avert a major planned attack in the State. I urge everyone to cue in and continue to support the security agencies and the State government to bring security stability to the state. Kudos to all the security agencies who have been in constant onslaught against these criminal elements in the state," he said.
