Why Ex-Power Minister, Agunloye Reported Himself To EFCC
Former minister of state for power, under ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, Olu Agunloye, reportedly turned himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to prove that he was not evading prosecution or ignored the invitation of the Commission in his alleged $6 billion purported scam involving the contentious Mambilla hydropower project.
Freshe News gathered that on Tuesday, the former minister turned himself in to the headquarters of the EFCC after he was alleged to have fled the country and grilled.
It was not certain, if he was granted bail in self recognition.
Last week, the EFCC, placed advertorial in a newspaper declaring Agulonye wanted in connection with a $6 billion purported scam involving the contentious Mambilla hydropower project.
“The public is hereby notified that Olu Agunloye, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of corruption and forgery.
The EFCC called the public with useful information as to his whereabouts” to contact the agency.
It was gathered that he was interrogated by the operatives of the commission after he personally visited the commission in Abuja.
Recall that the EFCC, in September 2023,  questioned the former minister over the same fraud issue.
Agunloye was a minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government (1999-2003). He has been at the centre of the controversy about the Mambilla project.
He was accused by Obasanjo of illegally awarding the project’s contract without the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) consent.
However, Agunloye refuted the charges and asserted that OBJ was falsifying information.
