US Government Evacuates Officials, Families Others From Khartoum

The U.S. has ordered its military to evacuate all American government personnel from strife-torn Khartoum.

President Joe Biden made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday, adding that the American government has equally suspended all operations at its embassy due to continuous fighting between Sudan's rival commanders.

"This tragic violence in Sudan has already cost the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians.

"It's unconscionable and it must stop," Biden said.

In another statement, Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, added that all US personnel, their dependants and families have already been ferried out.

"all U.S. personnel and their dependents have been safely evacuated."

Blinken noted that the U.S. will continue to assist other Americans still inside Sudan to plan their safety.

Reuters reports that the evacuation operation involved six aircrafts which the Rapid Support Forces, RSF, claimed it coordinated with the US military.

U.S. military officials confirmed that the aircrafts entered, evacuated all US government personnel from the embassy and exited Sudan without any incident.

Meanwhile, other foreign nationals were being evacuated from a Red Sea port in Sudan on Saturday.

In particular, staff of the United Nations, including Japanese nationals and their families are expected to be moved out on Sunday even as the war trapped a large numbers of people in Khartoum haven disabled the airport and rendered some roads impassable.
