Kogi State House Of Assembly Majority Leader Steps Aside To Allow Investigation Over Terrorism Accusation Against Him, Eight Others

The majority leader in the Kogi House of Assembly, Murktar Bajeh (APC-Okehi), has resigned from his position following terrorism accusation against him by the Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello.

The majority leader in the Kogi House of Assembly, Murktar Bajeh (APC-Okehi), has resigned from his position following terrorism accussation against him by the Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello.
 Bajeh on Thursday, resigned amidst the terrorist allegations slammed on him and eight other of his colleagues.

Yahaya Bello had on March 23, accused Bajeh and eight others of his colleagues out of the 25 Assembly members of being terrorists because of their activities during the March 18 House of Assembly elections in the state.
Bello made his allegation in a letter he wrote to the speaker, Matthew Kolawale, asking him to the suspend the nine of the lawmakers with the majority leader.
According to Bello, the House should launch an investigation to ascertain the role each of the lawmakers played during the assembly election.
However, Mr Bajeh, in his letter to the house, said he was determined to step down from the majority leader’s position to allow the probe by the governor and the house.
“I hereby wish to inform this House that I am no more interested in being your leader but have resigned forthwith,” the letter read.
The speaker read the letter and asked for the opinion of the house members during plenary.
Deputy speaker, Alfa Momoh-Rabiu, moved motion to nominate a substitute in the person of the chief whip, Ahmed Dahiru, to replace Mr Bajeh.
Mr Dahiru, who was the chief whip, was unanimously accepted by members to fill the vacant position, as the members said he has the capacity and ability to do the job.
 “The house, having accepted the choice of Hon. Ahmed Dahiru, member representing Okene II, to fill in the gap left by Hon. Muktar Bajeh, we hereby declare him (Dahiru) our new Majority Leader from today”. The Speaker said.
