INEC May Announce Adamawa Guber Results On Thursday
There are indications that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Thursday, this week, announced the results of the Adamawa State governorship election.
There are indications that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Thursday, this week, announced the results of the Adamawa State governorship election.
Dr Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of information and Voter Education Committee,
said a meeting had been scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday of all the Commissioners on the matter.
Recall that INEC on Monday suspended its Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari for his coup against the Chief Returning Officer and singlehandedly anounced the All Progressives Congress, APC, Candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, as duly elected even as collatiion of results were still ongoing which led to the suspension of the collation of the results of 10 LGAs.
The constitution says the declaration of election results was the responsibility of the returning officer, and not the resident electoral commissioner and with this provision, Lamido was the rightful official empowered to declare the winner of the election.
The INEC summoned the REC and Mele Lamido, returning officer in the election, to its headquarters in Abuja and suspended Hudu Yanusa-Ari.
Meanwhile, the meeting of all National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is going on at the commission’s national headquarters in Abuja as of the time of this report.
