Gen Diya is Dead
General Oladipo Diya, former Chief of Staff to Gen Sani Abacha, is dead.
Gen Oladipo Diya, former Chief of Army to ex-maximum ruler, Gen Sani Abacha, has died.
His death was disclosed in a statement released by a member of his family, Barrister Prince Oyesinmilola Diya, early Sunday.
According to the statement, Gen Diya, a former military administrator of Ogun state, passed on in the early hours of Sunday, March 26, 2023.
“Our dear Daddy passed onto glory in the early hours of 26th March 2023," the statement which enjoined sympathizers to pray for the family reads in part.
Late Diya was born on April 3, 1944, and went on to have an illustrious career in the military which he joined as an officer in the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
Diya, who fought alongside other top Nigerian Army officers during the Nigerian civil war, attended the US Army School of Infantry, the Command and Staff College, Jaji and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.
A trained lawyer, he held several top military posts, including the GOC, 82 Division before becoming the Chief of General Staff to Gen Sani Abacha.
