Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has begun the acceleration of programmes geared towards the implementation and achievement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This was disclosed during the ministry's recent policy retreat in Abuja.

The strategy, the ministry said, is designed to review and articulate the Ministry’s strategic vision and operations, driven by its 4D foreign policy strategy (Democracy, Development, Demography and Diaspora) which form the pillars for the actualization of sustainable development. 

At the well attended retreat, held at the Wells Carlton hotel, the FCT, Foreign Affairs stakeholders, including the Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello; Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Honorable Abdulmuminu Jibril; Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs/International Relations, Ambassador Olusola Enikanolaiye and several other serving and retired diplomats, synergized and shared ideas on how to realize the foreign policy vision evolved with specific objectives and outcomes to be attained between 2023-2027.

The priority areas which will serve as the yardstick for the Ministry’s operations for the next four years were grouped into five key focus areas including, Inclusivity, Economic Growth/Job Creation, Security, Fairness and Rule of Law, Anti-corruption stance. 

A statement after the retreat indicates that harnessing the potentials of the Diaspora to strengthen Nigeria's economic diversity will be the focus of the first priority. The second priority, the statement adds, will be on promoting the country’s visibility and relevance at the global level. 

The third priority will focus on the promotion of national, regional and global peace and stability while the fourth priority area will be on strengthening democratic governance in West African and Africa. The fifth priority, it notes, will place emphasis on reforming the Ministry for effective service delivery.

The retreat brought together top diplomats in the country who, in the past had served Nigeria meritorious. They include Amb Joe Keshi, Amb Martins Uhomoibhi, Amb Bulus Lolo and Amb Usman Sarki. Other stakeholders include heads of agencies under the Ministry, Honorable Yakubu Buba of DTAC.

While making his remarks, Amb Tuggar, expressed his confidence in the unalloyed commitment of the Ministry’s staff to drive the actualization of President Tinubu's vision for a renewed and efficient Ministry of Foreign Affairs in tune with the dynamic state of diplomacy and current realities that is proactive and responsive to the needs of Nigerians all over the world.

In his closing remarks the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amb Adamu Ibrahim Lamua said Nigerians should expect nothing short of efficient service delivery from the Ministry under the current administration in line with the renewed Hope agenda of the President.
