Court Jails Two Yahoo Boys In Kaduna

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured the conviction and sentencing of two fraudsters, Victor Owoseni and Aminu Saleh, before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna, on separate one count charges that bordered on impersonation and obtaining by trickery.

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured the conviction and sentencing of two fraudsters, Victor Owoseni and Aminu Saleh, before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna, on separate one count charges that bordered on impersonation and obtaining by trickery.

Victor, who was arrested at  Barnawa, Kaduna following intelligence on his alleged internet fraud-related activities, assumed the identity of a Fadil Anis, opened a fake email account with the same name and contacted two victims  posing as female cryptocurrency trader and seeking romantic relationships with them.

Aminu Saleh on the other hand was apprehended by Kaduna Vigilance Services (KADVS) and handed over  to the Commission for further investigation in the coure of which he confessed to impersonating  celebrities like Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Aniston, using social media platforms  to extort his victims mostly white men living in the U.S.

The charge against Victor reads: “that you, Victor Owoseni, (aka FADIL ANIS) on or about the 18th of April, 2023 at High Cost No4, Narayi, Barnawa, Kaduna State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court falsely presented yourself as Fadil Anis and in that assumed character opened and operated an email address fadilanis@yahoo.com and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017”.

 The charges against Aminu reads: “that you, Aminu Saleh sometime in February, 2023 at Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of the Kaduna State High Court with intent to defraud obtained a total sum of $150 USD from Richard Ferry when you presented yourself as Sandra Bullock which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence of impersonation, contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017”.

The defendants pleaded guilty to their separate charges.

 Justice Bello convicted and sentenced Victor to Six months imprisonment or a fine of N150,000.00, while Aminu bagged two years imprisonment or a fine of N150,000.00. Both are to forfeit their mobile devices, and Aminu the cash sum of $260 USD.
