Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has confirmed his decision to step down from his position following a contentious incident involving midfielder Jenni Hermoso during Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory celebration. The RFEF had requested Rubiales’ resignation after Hermoso raised concerns about the non-consensual nature of the kiss, subsequently filing a formal complaint with the national prosecutor’s office.

FIFA, the international football governing body, has taken provisional action by suspending Rubiales for a period of 90 days and initiating disciplinary proceedings against him. In an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, Rubiales expressed his love and pride for his daughters, revealing that their well-being played a pivotal role in his resignation decision.

“My resignation? Yes, I’m going to, I cannot continue my work,” Rubiales stated. “My father, my daughters, I spoke with them, they know it’s not a question about me. They say to me, ‘Luis, now you have to focus on your dignity and continue your life, because you will do damage to people you love.’”

The Spanish women’s national team made a collective statement, asserting they would not represent their country until Rubiales was removed from his post.
