An alleged organ snatcher narrowly escaped instant mob action around the Dei Dei are of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on Thursday.

Reports also say that police operatives from the Gwagwa division deployed to rescue and deescalate tension were attacked by the rowdy mob which went on to destroy the operational vehicle used by the servicemen. 

FreshNews multimedia learnt that trouble began when an unidentified man raised the alarm that his penis disappeared upon coming into contact with a suspect, identified simply as Mubarak.

Subsequently, a mob gathered and swooped on the suspect, beating and demanding that he restored the allegedly stolen organ.  

The ensuing uproar was said to have escalated when five operatives from the Gwagwa police division arrived the scene to prevent the suspect from being lynched. But the mob turned on the police 5-man team, accusing them of attempting to release a criminal.

The mob went further to destroy the team's operational vehicle. 

“On Thursday evening at Dei-Dei Timber market, a man called Mubarak was attacked by an angry mob after a man said his manhood went missing after having contact with him. He cried out for help and some people gathered round Mubarak.

"He was beaten and almost lynched when about five policemen came to the scene to rescue him. All efforts by the police to ensure that the mob released Mubarak to them fell on deaf ears.

“The mob then turned to the policemen and destroyed their vehicle. Those who escaped call their office and they are reinforced to the place. The whole area was tensed yesterday and we are not even sure what would happen next. This manhood issue is getting out of hand now, it is time we do something about it," a resident volunteered to newsmen. 

The FCT command confirmed the incident, adding that indeed, beyond beating the suspect, the mob also attacked police operatives deplored to the scene to douse ensuing tension. Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh said;

“Our men deployed to the scene to rescue the man was attacked. Reinforcement was immediately deployed. Normalcy has been restored to the area. Lawful citizens can go about their activities without fear. ”

FreshNews multi-media sought to know what the command has put in place with regards to reaching out to community stakeholders to further sensitize the public on the issue. However, the PPRO had not responded to the enquiry at the time of filing this report.
