Akpabio Emerges As Senate President, As Abbas Takes Over As Reps Speaker

Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, representing Akwa Ibom North West, has emerged President of the 10th Senate.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom state polled 63 votes to defeat his rival, Sen Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara state, representing Zamfara Central.

Sen Jubril Barau, Kano North, emerged unopposed as Deputy Senate President. 

Sen Akpabio, the immediate Minister of the Niger Delta and former minority leader of the Senate, was nominated by Senator Ali Ndume, Borno South, and seconded by Sen Olamilekan Solomon Yayi, Lagos West. 

Similarly, Senator Ishaku Abbo, Adamawa North, nominated Sen Yari. He was seconded by Sen Jimoh Ibrahim, Ondo South. 

Meanwhile, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, representing Zaria Federal Constituency, has emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives. Nominated by Hon Ado Dogowa and seconded by Hon Nnolim Nnaji. 

Hon Abbas emerged as Speaker, haven polled 353 votes, to defeat his rivals, Hons Aminu Jaji and Idris Wase both of whom polled 3 votes each. 

Both Sen Akpabio and Hon Abbas emerged President of the Senate and Speaker, House of Representatives respectively in the build-up to the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

Benjamin Kalu, Bende Federal Constituency, emerged as Dep Speaker
