Police Arraigns Aluminium Fabricator Over Diversion Of N1.7m Customer's Money

Iddo Police Station of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command, has arraigned a 38-year-old aluminium fabricator, Yekini Tunde, for allegedly duping one Mr Joseph Olayinka, of N1.7 million before an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The defendant was on Wednesday arraigned for allegedly diverting his customer’s N1.795 million.
The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that Mr Joseph Olayinka of Guzape settlement in Abuja, reported the matter at Iddo Police Station on June 30, stressing that Tunde who resides in Sabo-Iddo Abuja, was charged with criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of his customer's money.
According to Yakubu, sometime in April 2023, the complainant entrusted the sum of N1.795 million to the defendant to fabricate 53 aluminium windows for him but that the defendant allegedly converted the money to his own personal use without delivering the job.
Police Prosecution said during police investigation, the defendant confessed that he sent an account number bearing Vincent Okwokwo, domiciled with First Bank, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of "Sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code."
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Abdullahi Abdulkarim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum for further investigation to be carried out.
Abdulkarim ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until July 25 for further hearing.
