Cannibalism: Osun Woman Bags 2 Years For Eating Human Heart

Osun state High Court on Tuesday, sentenced 46-year-old Bola Adeeko, to two years imprisonment.

She was jailed for eating the cooked heart of his son’s girl friend, Favour Duley Oladele, a final year student of Lagos State University, LASU, as part of the requirements for money rituals.

The court, sitting in Ikire, Irewole council area, also convicted her 23-year-old son, Owolabi Adeeko, for luring the deceased to be killed for money rituals.

The Adeekos, alongside one Prophet Segun, committed the crime on December 8, 2019 but were first charged to court in January, 2020 and subsequently remanded in prison.

They were however, arraigned on November 15, 2021. 

According to the prosecution counsel, Owolabi called the deceased via phone on december 8, 2019 and asked her to meet him at his uncle at Ikoyi-Ile.

The deceased did as instructed and arrived as instructed, after which Owolabi took her to Prophet Segun’s church where she was killed and dismembered.

Her heart was subsequently eaten by Owolabi’s mother as part of the get-rich ritual requirements. 

While delivering her judgement, Presiding Judge, Justice Christiana Obadina, noted that the prosecution proved its case beyond every reasonable doubt. Thus, the court found Prophet Segun and Owolabi guilty as charged and sentenced to death for murder.

They were also sentenced to 14 years imprisonment each for conspiracy.

Bola Adeeko, Owolabi's mother, got a light two-year sentence because she was not privy to the killing of the deceased but was only given a concoction, which contained her heart, to eat.
