Supreme Court Throws Away PDP's Suit Against Tinubu, Shettima's Double Nomination
The Apex Court, has dismissed the suit filed by the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, against the double nomination of the All Progressives Congress, APC, vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima.
The Apext Court, has dismissed the suit filed by the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, against the doube nomination of the All Progressives Congress, APC, vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima.
Five-member panel of the supreme court on Friday, ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lacked the locus standi to file a suit against the disqualification of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), based on double nominations.
In dismissing the suit seeking to disqualify the President elect and the vice president elect, the Apex Court stated that the PDP was not a member of the APC.
The PDP had gone to the Appeal court where the case was dismissed fior the first time before they proceeded to the supreme court.
According to the PDP, Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate was in breach of the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
PDP, argued that Shettima’s nomination to contest the position of vice-president and Borno central senatorial seat at the same time contravened the law.
