Presidency Debunks New Salary Approval For Political Office Holder's, Judicial Officers
Dele Alake

The Presidency has described media reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved salary raise for political appointees and judicial officers as utter falsehood.

Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communications & Strategy, Dele Alake, made the declaration in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

Alake, who admitted that although the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, has the constitutional mandate to recommend salary increase, it however, cannot have any effect until it is brought before the President for consideration and approval.

According to the statement, non of such has happened as reported.

"We state without any equivocation that President Bola Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been brought before him for consideration," the statement read in part.

Alake pointed out that the RMAFC has responded to the fake story through its spokesperson.

He noted regretfully that the fact the story gained trending traction not only in the new media but a section of mainstream, is an indication of the danger fake news pose to the society.

"...that this unfounded story gained prominence on social media and in a section of mainstream media, again, brings to the fore the danger fake news poses to the society and our national well-being.

"The misinformation was, obviously, contrived to create ill-will for the new administration, slow down the upward momentum and massive goodwill the Tinubu-led administration is currently enjoying among Nigerians as a result of its fast paced, dynamic and progressive policies."
