Operatives of the Nigerian Army, belonging to the 192 Battalion, have prevented the importation of a large haul of ammunition in the country.

The consignment, which would have added more combustible fuel to the already volatile security situation in the South East, was intercepted at Ajilete, a border town with Benin Republic, Ogun state.

The burst, which took place along the Ajilete-Owode road, Yewa North council area of the state, involves a truck, with registration number ENU 697 XY, en route Onitsha, Anambra state from Mali.

The truck is reported to be carrying thousands of Red star cartridges, including 720 cartons, each containing 25 cartridges, totalling 18,000.

It was also found to be loaded with an additional 250 packets of live cartridges of pellet black, totalling 2,500,all of the same calibre.

@PhantomEyeHub report, disclosed that the discovery was made when the Battalion operatives flagged down the truck for routine checks.

Two suspects, included a Ghanaian, identified as Eric Seworvor, and the driver of the truck, whose identity was not disclosed, were arrested by the troop.

Investigations indicate that the consignment, which passed into the country through the Idi Iroko border, also passed through other international borders on its way from Mali.

Anambra state, it's said final destination, is one of the South East states currently embroiled in banditry and other criminals activities believed to be orchestrated by a faction of the Independent Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network, ESN
