Lagos Red Rail Ready for Roll-Out

The Red Rail network of the Lagos State government is set for commissioning.

The disclosure was made during a Thanksgiving Service for the state on Sunday, by the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to him, the project is 99.9 per cent completed and would be commissioned in February by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Red Line is a 37km rail route designed to convey commuters from Agbado, Lagos mainland, to Marina on the Island.

It has 13 stations located at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, domestic wing of the MMIA International, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Ebute Metta, Iddo, Ebute Ero and Marina.

Prior to the inauguration announcement, the line underwent a pre-commission test run late 2023 following the completion of the Yaba Flyover, one of four concurrently constructed by the state along the rail corridor.

Besides serving as an alternative access to Ebute Metta, Oyingbo, Yaba and Surulere, the bridge is expected to also eliminate pedestrian and vehicular interference on the rail tracks, thus reducing the risk of accidents and collisions between trains and vehicles.
