There are reports that a Catholic clergyman has been abducted at Nnobi Roundabout in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
There was pandemonium as bandits releases bullets while trying to whisk away a man suspected to be Catholic priest.
Though there were no casualties but many people, including pregnant women, nursing mothers among others sustained various degrees of injury as they ran helter-skelter in different directions to safety when the bandits began shooting.
The incident occured on Monday night, April 25, 2023, at 8:35 pm, and disrupted the evening market and street trading along the road as the hoodlums shot indiscriminately into the air.
A passer-by who witnessed the abduction said the man was driving Lexus FX 300 with plate number Anambra GDD 882 PW, and headed towards the Awka-Etiti direction when the incident occured.
According to the source, the victim, stopped his car at the Nnobi Junction to buy some fruits when his phone rang adding that as he was answering the call, he was double-crossed by another car whose occupants were armed.
It was learned that the bandits, however, whisked the man into their jeep leaving the victim’s car on the road before driving off.
It was gathered that Nnobi Junction had become notorious for abductions, armed robbery, killings among other vices since 2021, when the IPOB started declaring every Monday as sit-at-home in the South East, Nigeria.
According to reports, the victim's car was still parked on the road facing the Awka-Etiti axis of the notorious Nnobi Junction, Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, lasted reports said security operatives believed to be policemen from the state police command, came and drove the vehicle away on Tuesday morning.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu said there was no report of the incident before him at press time, adding that he would spread the information.
